9-11 sept - went to Perhentian Island , as helper in the Perhentian Challenge event. 6 hrs of coach and 30mins of roller-coaster like speed boat journey, I’ve reached the paradise - clear water, smooth sand, clear sky ~~~ muakssssssss…
The first day was all about preparation of equipment , briefing for the event. Getting to know 5 gila mates, and the nice and kind race director. Working together with them was fun. Not much of tough work, all stuffs were done in a flash by the 7 of us.
The event started on the second day - there was the busiest day, together with 11 other mates were the officials of the event, setting up the racing course, preparing equipment, marking records, guiding the participants etc. It was a hot and sunny day, running here and there along the shore , under the sun and bare foot on the hot sand was really suffering, but a good experience too.
First section was the sports event - the participants swimming apx. 1km at the sea, then follow by kayak-ing from the Perhentian big island to Long beach ( small island) and finally followed by 7km of trails running in the jungle to the finishing point…phiew~~ their speed and energy really makes my eyes open. Next followed by the fun games , treasure hunting in the jungle and sea and tug- of - war. I was volunteer in the tug of war with the participants - to fill up the event number for the team, and guess what, the team i joined won the first prize!
Right after all the racing events, without much hessitation, we all jumped into the sea to relax and have fun. That was the time, we got a free swimming lesson from the kind race director - the ex-athlete and the proffesional swimming instructor.
The third day, a day to say bye bye to the sea… and back to KL ,tired, exhausted and whole body aching.
